The Netherlands should cement its ambition of becoming an international leader in technology through a ‘Technology Agreement’, much in the same way as sustainability has been cemented in the ‘Energy Agreement’. This is championed by Victor van der Chijs, president of 4TU, the collaboration between the four technological universities in Delft, Eindhoven, Enschede and Wageningen.
According to Van der Chijs, the Netherlands currently functions more like a follower of technological developments instead of being a leader in this regard. To seize this role, the government should invest much more in technological education and research.
