Developing fundamental insights into deep eutectic mixtures

Share

On the 22nd of May 2019 PhD candidate Laura Kollau became Dr Kollau with her thesis on ‘Fundamental insights into deep eutectic mixtures’. As a part of the Institute for Sustainable Process Technology’s ProviDES project she did her research at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the laboratory of Physical Chemistry.

The research focussed on systematically measuring phase diagrams of well-defined eutectic mixtures and developing a theoretical framework for the quantification, the description, and the prediction of the phase behaviour of deep eutectic mixtures. Through this research the team managed to predict the liquid window of 22 new mixtures.

The research provided fundamental insight into the phase behaviour of deep eutectic mixtures which are the prospect for new designer solvents. In order for this to be accomplished, it was essential that phase behaviour of these new mixtures could be predicted.
